Detail

The goal of The Watershed Manager Educators Guide is to define a watershed and to teach that every level of soil, plant, animal, and human life depends on the health of the watershed. Actions affecting land and water resources happen every day in homes, offices, farms, industries, reservoirs, mountains, prairies, deserts, and deltas. What is done to a river or the land it passes through—everything done on the land's surface eventually reaches water—carries long-term effects. This book demonstrates the common elements and issues of watersheds and guides the student, educator, or community to increased awareness of and participation in their watershed.

Each activity in this guide is ready to be taught by anyone, anywhere, regardless of how much water resources experience he or she has. A summary of each activity begins on page xii, followed by an explanation of the activity format. Correlations to National Education Standards in science and other disciplines are in the appendix.

Formal and nonformal educators of K-12 students, community organizations, businesses and NGOs can use the activities in this guide alone or as supplements to existing curriculums in the natural and social sciences, art, history, ecology, or civics. The activities have been arranged from introductory topics through international management levels and cover natural patterns and influences, data collection and extrapolation, attitudes and values, quantity and quality, water users and regulations, cultural issues and
future scenarios.
